Marimo (Aegagropila linnaei) is a form of freshwater algae found in the northern hemisphere lakes. The waves in the current push and pull the algae and give them their unique & fuzzy sphere shape.
Marimo balls are often given as gifts as a low-maintenance pet.
In Japan, they are considered good luck charms and sometimes kept as family heirlooms, living up to 200 years.
